Become a GAL

To become a Guardian ad litem for the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court, attorneys must attend New Guardian ad Litem Training (pre-service training), which the Guardian ad Litem Project offers. New GAL Training will be announced shortly. We hold this training cooperatively with the Cuyahoga County Domestic Relations Court.

Once an attorney completes New Guardian ad Litem Training, the attorney must submit an
Guardian ad Litem Application to the Guardian ad Litem Project.

Join Us in Making a Difference One Child At a Time

Be the difference in the lives of abused and neglected children in Cuyahoga County. Three-day training session will cover all the topics mandated by Sup.R.48 of the Ohio Rules of Superintendence for the Courts of Ohio.

Child and Family Advocates of Cuyahoga County is requesting 5.0 hours of Continuing Legal Education credit, including 2.0 hours of Professional Conduct for Day 1 on November 13, 2019; 6.0 hours of Continuing Legal Education credit, including 1.0 hours of Professional Conduct for Day 2 on November 14, 2019; and 5.75 hours of Continuing Legal Education credit, including 1.5 of Professional Conduct for Day 3 on November 15, 2019. The total number of CLE hours are 16.75. All training days cover all topics mandated by Rule 48 of the Ohio Rules of Superintendence for the Courts of Ohio. To apply for Guardian ad Litem appointments in Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court or Domestic Relations Court, attendees must attend all three days of training.

This training has been partially funded through a contract between Ohio CASA and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Ohio CASA supports local CASA/GAL programs throughout Ohio with training, technical assistance, legislative support, and standards implementation, so volunteers may advocate for abused, neglected and dependent children in the court system. This training is also supported by grant number, 2019-VOCA-132131098, awarded by the Office for Victims of Crime, Office for Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice, through the Ohio Attorneys General’s Office. Victims of crime will be served.
